There are times when teeth are weakened to the point of needing a laboratory fabricated restoration such as a crown, inlay, onlay or bridge to properly restore a tooth or teeth.  This is one of the areas where Doctors Powell and Tiller invest a great deal of their time through continuing education and resources through advanced equipment, materials, and techniques.  They are also proud to use one of the nation’s most widely acclaimed dental laboratories, DaVinci Dental Laboratory, in concert with a Master Ceramist to provide you optimal results. 

All dental crowns are not created equally, there are many steps each of which are important to producing a long-lasting, comfortable restoration.  Doctors Powell and Tiller are proud to be one of the few dentists in Texas to offer digital impressions.  Traditionally, a patient would sit with impression material to have a mold made of their teeth.  The impression material is not only distasteful, but can often gag a patient, and overall not be the most pleasant experience.  Furthermore each step in this process (from taking the impression to pouring up a stone model) comes with a certain amount of thermal expansion or shrinkage and possible distortion.  Digital impressions from iTero use 3D digital imaging to provide quicker, more comfortable and extremely accurate models of your teeth.  This technology is not inexpensive, but our doctors feel it is their responsibility to provide their patients the best possible service.  US News and World Report recently featured iTero in an article about recent innovations in dentistry.  To read the excerpt click here. 

After taking your digital impression, your case is sent via cyberspace to our laboratory increasing speed and accuracy.  Our expert laboratory works closely with our doctors to create the best restoration for you.  DaVinci Dental Laboratory has such an outstanding reputation for clinical excellence that the iTero System used this lab in their clinical trials in order to rule out laboratory error from their study.  Drs. Powell and Tiller have also found that while their Master Ceramists do come at additional cost, the exceptional final result outweighs the added expense.

Dental Crowns

A dental crown, is a restoration designed to fit over a tooth in order to strengthen and stabilize a damaged or weakened tooth. Teeth that have been fractured or weakened by decay or large fillings can benefit from a crown. Crowns are also be used to support teeth that have been treated with a root canal to prevent them from breaking.  If you have discolored teeth, or wish to cover unnatural-looking dental work, a crown may be suitable.

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays are laboratory fabricated restorations similar to a crown yet are more conservative and can be used when the tooth is vital (has not had a root canal) and only a portion of the tooth is weakened rather than the entire tooth.

Dental Bridge

A dental bridge is one option for tooth replacement.  It is similar to several connected crowns in a row, but is used to replace at least one missing tooth. It is a natural-looking, non-removable restoration that restores your smile in front, or your full bite in the back of your mouth.
